Sentai Filmworks announced the English dub cast for the Blade of the Immortal (Mugen no Jūnin: Immortal) anime on its website on Friday. The Blu-ray Disc of the anime is available for pre-order and will ship on January 19. The company also streamed a promotional video of the English dub.
This wiki displays the romanised Japanese names following the kanji readings, i.e. Family name first, followed by first name format. This is different from the usual convention of representing romanised names in first-name-followed-by-family-name in other publications.
Gintama Episode 1 Eng Dub
Enjoy dubbed anime streaming, like MADE IN ABYSS: Journey's Dawn, MADE IN ABYSS: Wandering Twilight, Food Wars! The Third Plate, and more on HIDIVE! Based on the best-selling action comedy manga by Hideaki Sorachi, GINTAMA takes place in an alternate Edo-period Japan, where an Alien race has taken control, forcing Samurai to lay down their swords. Gintama is my most favorite anime (the first 316 episodes anyway). This season is all serious and just completely changes the forumla. Had it been mixed in with 50-100 other episodes, the scoring would be different, but I have to base it off these 12 specifically.
The English dub cast — under director Shannon D. Reed, ADR writer Joel McCray, ADR engineers David Lascoe and Ricardo Contreras, and mix engineers Ricardo Contreras and Bryan Leach — stars:
- Juliet Simmons as Rin Asano
- Andrew Love as Manji
- Adam Gibbs as Kagehisa Anotsu
- Eric Chase as Sabato Kuroi
- Michael Wronski as Taito Magatsu
- Christina Kelley as Makie Otono-Tachibana
- Josh Morrison as Sōsuke Abayama
- Chris Hutchison as Saburō Anotsu
- Joe Daniels as Eiku Shizuma
- Jack Ivy as Araya Kawakami
- John Swasey as Kagimura Habaki
- Courtland Johnson as Giichi
- David Wald as Shira
- Scott Gibbs as Shinriji
- Vicki Barosh as Yaobikuni
Sentai Filmworks describes the anime:
Watch Gintama Season 1 Dubbed
Damned to wander the Earth in an endless cycle of carnage and murder, the fallen samurai known as Manji seeks the chance to win back his mortality. To do so, he must first balance the deaths weighing against him by slaying 1000 evil souls, a task that would take even the greatest warriors a lifetime. Manji, however, has all the time in the world to kill, and his lonely quest leaves a trail of bloody bodies in his wake… until his path crosses with that of Rin, who has sworn vengeance against the murderers of her family and school, even though the cost will almost certainly be her own life. Now, the girl who chases death has an unkillable sword master at her side, and the men she seeks will soon learn to fear the BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL!
The new anime adaptation of Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal (Mugen no Jūnin) manga premiered in October 2019 worldwide (except in some areas) exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Sentai Filmworksannounced that it had acquired the license for the anime in United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Latin American countries, and Nordic countries on October 15.
Hiroshi Hamasaki (Steins;Gate, Shigurui: Death Frenzy, Orange) directed the anime at LIDEN FILMS. Makoto Fukami (2016/2017 Berserk, Psycho-Pass) oversaw the series scripts, Shingo Ogiso (The Heroic Legend of Arslan, The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance) was the character designer, and singer-songwriter Eiko Ishibashi composed the music.
Kiyohar performed the anime's opening theme song 'Survive of Vision.' (The song was created specifically for this anime.)
Samura launched the Blade of the Immortal manga in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in December 1993, and he completed the series in 2012. The manga's 30 volumes have more than 5.8 million copies in print, and the series has been published in 22 countries and territories. The manga earned an Excellence Prize in the manga category of the 1st Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 1997, and it won the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of Foreign Material in 2000. Dark Horse Comics published the Blade of the Immortal manga in North America, rereleased it in omnibus form, and is publishing deluxe editions of the manga.
A official sequel manga titled Mugen no Jūnin - Bakumatsu no Shō (Blade of the Immortal - Bakumatsu Arc) launched in May 2019. Kenji Takigawa is writing the story, and Ryū Suenobu is drawing the art, with Samura credited for collaboration.
The original manga already inspired a television anime in 2008, and Media Blastersreleased the anime in English. Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of the manga premiered in Japan in April 2017. The film premiered in North America at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas in September 2017. The film then had a wider theatrical release in November 2017. The manga has also inspired a stage play adaptation.
